Wanted to try at a "budget" setup for a betta at petsmart, 5gal is the absolute minimum I'll go bettas. All plants from petsmart, tank, wood, rocks and the little guy himself were $100. Any opinions or improvements? I'm giving him about a week or two to adjust and take in his new digs before I add a couple ghost shrimps to clean the nooks and crannies, just two bladder snails and this dood in there now.

How old is this tank? Shrimp in general adapt better to a mature tank (different to a cycled tank!). There’ll be more biofilm for them to snack on. It’ll also give your plants a chance to grow a little bigger/denser to provide hides for the shrimp, since your betta might realize that they are snack-shaped sooner rather than later.
Maybe give it a couple of months instead?
