Betta Fish: Blind Betta

Hey all,

Today I went to a pet store and saw a betta fish that is entirely blind. After talking with someone working in the fish tank section, they told me I could take him for free since he would likely die, be thrown away, or just suffer in those stupid cups they sell bettas in. They said he eats well, they just can’t sell him and labeled him in big sharpie on his cup as “cosmetically imperfect” along with a couple of other bettas sitting on the very bottom shelf who just had some fin issues but could likely be sold just because of their colors. He also happens to have a slightly torn right fin (his right, our left) that can’t be seen very well in the photo but he seems to be doing ok.

Anyways, we bought a new heater, new tank and filter(not one of those stupid betta cubes or 2 gallon tanks they advertise for bettas) and got a few small decor items for now until we can get some nicer things in for him. He also has a betta leaf and we had some spare gravel for his tank that we put in after realizing we had it (after the photo was taken).

I personally think he is so cool and am glad we were able to take him. From what I can tell, he is completely blind and is starting to get scale growth over his eyes. We think he will become more vibrant the longer we have him since he is in a lot better conditions.
