$400ish dollars for maxcatch high end products with life time warranty. I have read forums saying their service is fantastic but just want to know if this is worth the money for 8wt combo and whether it will actually perform predominantly for salt water fishing.

Well I don’t know if the 8wt has the same reel seat but that’s not a saltwater safe reel seat
I would also steer you towards a company like Orvis. A Clearwater rod with a Hydros reel is a great combo that will be comparable and also has a great warranty. Or how about Echo. All Echo rods are designed by Tim Rajeff in house and they have excellent customer service at a great value. I know that some on here have found Maxcatch to be a good value. However considering they are just blatantly stealing from other companies I have a hard time recommending them. Take a look at their fly lines. They haven’t even bothered to change the name of Rio’s lines that they are blatantly ripping off. I’d look to Orvis, Echo, TFO, Redington etc. long before recommending Maxcatch personally.
I own the Orvis Clearwater, a superfine, and a few maxcatch rods.
Maxcatch has a great warranty and the non-warranty pieces are very cheap to replace. Shipping is somewhat slow, and a new piece takes 3-4 weeks to arrive. However, your warranty turnaround at Orvis will likely be around the same if not longer.
The difference will likely be in the service and overall product quality you receive. Is my Clearwater nicer than my nicest maxcatch rod and reel? Yes. Does it cast markedly better than the Clearwater? Meh. My love for Orvis is rooted in their service. 30 year rod warranty and a voucher/refund if the rod breaks and they no longer produce parts for it. Will maxcatch do that? Not sure, they haven’t been around for decades like Orvis.
Orvis has a ridiculously good level of customer service that forces me to choose between known and consistent service, with a high initial cost. Maxcatch has good products with decent service, but are newer to the industry and I’m not sure how long the good service will last. Also keep in mind that you can walk into an Orvis retail store for assistance and testing, whereas you have to eye everything when ordering from an online only company.
My money goes to both companies, but I generally feel a bit better about the longevity of my product with the dollars I spend at Orvis.
