Hey all,
I will be going on a cruise toward the end of February that will be making a single day stop near Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. I’ve done some research and it seems like the best flats fishing is on the southeast side of the island, near Punta Cana or Santo Domingo. Given the distance and the time constraints, that’s out of the question. It also seems like Puerto Plata is a hub for big game, deep sea trolling targeting marlin and other billfish species miles offshore. That’s also not really the experience I’m looking for here. I haven’t been able to pin down solid information on fishing regulations for the area, but I would be very much open to a shore-based, self led experience if that’s in the cards.
Best case scenario, I find a guide out of puerto plata that can do a half day, afternoon fly fishing trip targeting the reefs and such closer to shore. I’m not looking for anything crazy, I’d just like to hook into a Caribbean species while on a cruise vacation. With all of that said, do any of you fine folks have any leads, information, or former experience on something like this? TYIA
