Cool how much a species can vary in color based on when and where you catch it

  1. These are similar size northern pike i caught in the same state this year. One was from a clear, deep lake in coniferous forest. The other was on a river backwater during the winter.

    I’ve seen a lot of river fish (mostly bass, pike, sunfish) show up a light brighter, with “faded” colors. Especially if the river is murky.

    Not sure if the season makes much of a difference, but I tend to see lighter fish through the ice. Less sunlight?

  2. could just be the lighting but the eyes seem to have a different glow on the second pic also
