Hello! Any help/advice/opinion would be appreciated! I was working on consolidating my tanks and was getting ready to put this guy (Osiris) in a paired down community tank when I noticed that he had a lump on his side.

I started googling and freaked out that he had dropsy. I did a water change and added salt.

I went to my LFS and they said it didn’t look like dropsy because the lumps aren’t his whole body and he’s not so swollen that he’s pineconing (scales lifting up) but that he could absolutely have a bacterial infection. They recommended Kannaplex and Focus.

I gave him the first round of Kannaplex (1 dose every other day = 3 doses over 6 days) and then started mixing the Kannaplex with the focus and his food. He’s had the mixed food for about 4…. days now.

When I first noticed the lumps (there’s also some fading color where the lumps are) he was also lethargic and not eating but after 2 doses of the Kannaplex he’s been swimming around, coming to greet me and eating fine again. But the lumps haven’t gotten better or worse.

Does anyone know what this might be? Is he better and they’re just not going to go away? How will I know when it’s safe to move him to the community tank? TIA!!!

  1. Answer the automod questions when you get time. Be as specific as possible.

    But this kind of looks like maybe a cyst? I was thinking bloat at first, but then I thought If it’s bloat, it’s the weirdest bloat I’ve seen.

    And it’s too far forward to be the swim bladder…cyst is the best I got.

    I agree with the lfs owner. it doesn’t look like dropsy at all.

    His tank was a 3 gallon. I’ve moved him to a 10 gal that’s about half full.

    He has a heater and a sponge filter.

    Temp: 78

    Ammonia = 0, Nitrite = 0, nitrate = 10ish, pH = 8

    The tank was established for a month before I got him about 3 months ago.

    Every two weeks I siphon out about 30%, go over the substrate lightly and squeeze out the sponge filter in the used water.

    Up until now his only tank mates have been ramshorn snails (because they’re everywhere in all of my tanks 🤪) there was probably about 20 or so in with him now there’s maybe 5.

    I feed pellets every morning. One at a time until he’s no longer interested. About 5-8.

    He has a coconut shell cave and did have live plants but I replaced them with a satin plant when I added the salt.
