Baitcaster vs Conventional

So I'm putting together a new rod and reel combo for fishing the columbia river (PNW) for salmon and steelhead. It would only be used for plunking. I'm currently wondering what the benefits and drawbacks of a baitcaster vs a conventional reel would be for use while plunking. I have always used a conventional level wind. Other than slightly more line capacity on the conventional I don't see many differences. Thanks
