My wife found this cutie for free on Facebook , my question is … is he okay in his 2.5 he was in , we moved most his water with him but don’t think it was super great so did add some fresh RO water in it …
I added real plants and added a small sponge filter from my shrimp tank .. he has huge fins so tomorrow I’ll get him one of those leave things that float if needed so he can be on it … he’s laying on the plant is he okay besides the obvious stressed out of his mind …
we are waiting for our 55 to finish cycling so we can move some of our tanks around and then we will have a 5 for him available… unless he can go in a community tank like our other betta (female)… or can they go together? If he can go in a community tank he could go into a 29 or a 20 (not planted yet as they hold angry crayfish right now) or a planted 20 with cherry shrimp and kuhli loaches (if I move the neon tetras out the be with the 3 rescues my wife got last week and he would be in a cycled bad ass tank tomorrow).. or a planted 5 with just him after we move out blue shrimp to their 10… lots of options for him …
the 55 is prolly 2 weeks out being done so I’m guessing middle of march we have our move madness started 🙂

Very small aquarium, the minimum recommended for bettas is 10 liters (I personally recommend 20), I don’t think it’s a good idea to leave him with the female Betta (they could end up having babies, and they could end up fighting with each other because of this), the ideal would be to leave him in the aquarium alone, but depending on the personality of the fish and the water parameters he could stay with other animals (I’ve seen male Betta fish in a community aquarium with neocaridina shrimps), anyway, good luck!!
Just put him in the five, community tanks can be very stressful for bettas. Just don’t put him in with the crayfish or the female betta. It seems he’s already had a hard life so just let him live it out peacefully. The planted 20 would work, but bettas tend to steal food from bottom feeders and that’s not healthy.
We need more pictures of him to tell you if hes healthy or not
The 5 gallon planted sounds like your best option untill you can get a more appropriate size for him
Whatever you do do not put him anywhere near your female betta, bettas should never be housed together even if they mate they will kill eachother if not separated after
Even make sure they can not see eachother through the glass cause they may both get stressed out
Take care of it and do research……..
I’d advise against adding him to the female as it could stress them both out. The shrimp he may see as food and eat them depending on size. I have my male in a community tank with rasboras they are too fast for him to chase so he tried but now weeks later he doesn’t even care that they are there.
The neons wouldn’t be bad with him.
The crayfish and shrimp I’d air on the side of caution. His personality is unknown so he could be chill or he could be a monster.
5 is your best option. He’s a longfin betta so he should do really good in a 5 gallon as long as it’s heavily planted. You’ll hear some people say 5 gallons isn’t enough and it’s usually not but longfins swim in less area so you should be good.
