So I started using the Duel LG Sinking Pencil 50 for ultralight and the Duo Bay Ruff Seek 85 for Medium gear both of which come with a horizontally-oriented wire loop/eyes. Results have been great!
With vertical wire loops there is a delay between when you start a sweep and when it really digs into the water and engages it’s rolling/swimming/sliding action. So you have to make your sweeps longer if you want to give the impression that it’s swimming the whole time. I think this is why so many people advise that long sweeps are the best default retrieve.
With the horizontal loop it swings more freely and swims immediately. So you can do fast mini sweeps that really make the lure look much more like an injured fish. Even with long sweeps, it looks much better to me without the little delay before it starts rolling.
Also, it’s much easier to make a subsurface zig-zag walk the dog action more akin to a topwater action as it swings more freely.
Any recs on other lipless lures with such loops?

How does this actually change it? I can’t understand why it being horizontal or vertical would change it that much especially if using a clip, just reverses the attachment.
