BLUF: what 2.5-3.3” paddletails look life like? What do you suggest for clear water (4-5’ visibility)?

I fished a southern lake this past weekend with clear water, considered clear for the South anyway.

My usual Strikeking Rage Swimmers 2.75” and Megabass Spark Shad 3” didn’t do the trick. I normally slay with those in tannic or stained water, but this past weekend the bass just swam on past.

I saw probably 30 different bass, from half pound to approximately 4 pounds, and the response was the same for all.

On one occasion I noticed a 1-2 pounder chase a Rage Swimmers only to turn away once it got within a foot of it.

I assume they could tell they were fake because of the clear water, so I need to up my game.

I’ve been liking the crush city customs “The Mayor” 3″ swimbait.

Runs well and stays on the hook for a few fish before falling apart.

  2. I pretty much fish tannic water all the time, but i know that an keitech easy shiner with a nishine smelt head can be pretty good in clear water.

before you buy a bunch of different swimbaits, try a different presentation. keel weight your hook, try a jig head, speed up when you get a follow, remove the swivel from the setup. I’m not saying do all of these at once and it will fix you. i am recommending that you try them though.
