I picked up a couple of these tiny rods for $9.00 each from Walmart today. Two of them work just fine, but this one I had the line pop off the plastic and retreat into the body of the reel. After that, I put it back together the best I could figure how, and now for some reason it will only reel the line in when there is a bit of tension on the line to help it grab. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Those things suck, I’ve bought 1/2 for my niece and nephews and end up getting them a new one right away. Get a zebco they are much better and last till they need to upgrade.
return these rods. get a actual rod cause this is just trash.
Yeah sounds like something’s not quite sitting right inside the reel. Might be the line isn’t seated properly on the spool or the drag isn’t engaging right. If it only reels in under tension could be the line isn’t gripping the spool properly – maybe try respooling it with a bit of backing (like electrical tape or a few wraps of mono) to help it catch. Otherwise, could be something inside slipped out of place when you put it back together. If it’s a $9 rod might not be worth too much hassle but could be a fun little project to tinker with!
