I found this guy without hooks & decided i’d like to clean it up & re-hook it. I don’t want to use treble hooks & was curious if I need a specific type of hook, since they do not run parallel with the lure. Also, what type of paint should I use to boost the presentation?

You need in-line single replacement hooks. They are turned 90 degrees from these and the hooks should “point” toward the ends of the lure.
Edit: for best balance/performance, size the single hooks so they are roughly the same width as the whole stock treble hook, if that makes any sense.
