What is this guy doing to the fish he catches? They are all catch and release, they cannot be eaten at this lake due to a hexachromium spill. He is NOT bleeding them out.

The gill arches are damaged from poor handling or deep hooking. They are not existing injuries as you can see blood streaming down both fish.

Or he is snagging the fish like a DBag and not actually “fishing”

He’s either trying to hold the fish by hooking his hand under the gills but he’s going too far outward (need to hold them closer to right under the jaw) or he’s snagging them.

Both those fish have severed gills. These fish probably died.
