I just bought my first betta 4 hours ago, and from what I heard they typically have very good appetites, I’ve tried feeding him twice now and he couldn’t care less!
Second photo is him from above, he looks really skinny to me.
Ik I’m probably just overthinking, since this is his first day in my tank. But I’m worried I bought a food he doesn’t like, they didn’t have fluval betta pellets, so I bought Aqueon brand instead. Third photo is the food.

imagine you just got dropped into a nice house you’ve never seen before, you would be quite anxious too maybe wondering where the homeowner is or if there is one, you maybe might not even take a complimentary snack,
Dude just got nervous tummy great thing bout bettas is they can go a day or 2 without eating no problem (remember that for vacations if you don’t have someone you trust) just give him a night to chill and realize this nice new house is his and he SHOULD eat by tomorrow
He could be getting used to the tank. I would get bug bites from fluval on Amazon and see what happens . If he continues not to eat I’d maybe put him on biotics (Seachem kanaplex which you can get from Amazon )to make sure he doesn’t have anything going on
he’s just adjusting. those pellets are also dangerous to some bettas because they could joke bc of how big they are. flakes or frozen brine shrimp is definitely safer! but he’s absolutely beautiful
Bug bites soaked in water. I swear by this method. Anyways he’s new. He won’t eat right away. It’ll take time. Let him adjust.
My fish hated those pellets. You might want to dry a different brand or shape they can be picky. Mine won’t touch actual bloodworms
He needs time to acclimate, flakes would be a better transition, or try frozen black worms
I’m going to go ahead and be the millionth person to recommend the bug bites. When I got my first betta YEARS ago, I noticed he would spit the pellets out and then learned over time that they are actually too big for most of them.
don’t worry, if he’s fresh out the store he’s probably still hella stressed out, he most likely won’t eat for a little bit
Is the water declorinated? Is your tank cycled? These one calls and cannot eat and be stressed and potentially be deadly.
