I have tangled my baitcasting rod a few times and have noticed these paradoxical knots while I am fishing. It looks like the top end of my line somehow goes through the loops of the line below it, but that can't be because the line was stacked on top of each other and the end of the line never went back into the reel. Someone explain this magic trick and put my mind at rest, please!

After looking at it, it looks like the tag end of the line may have wrapped up on itself around the reel during the backlash.
You need to pull the loop that’s blocking it until the loop unwinds enough to come free
