Hello everyone,

I just set up my first fish tank 1,5 weeks ago and I have noticed that there seems to be a rather thick layer of biofilm building up at the top.
I thought that it might happen because of some dying leaves and bacterial imbalance of a new tank, but I would like to make sure this won’t be a problem before I put in the fish and shrimp in about 4 weeks.
I have cleaned the tank 3 times until now.
Is there a reason to be concerned?
Should I think of more surface agitation or do I let the shrimps take care of it once they are in?

I appreciate every advice!

  1. Biofilm is not harmful and can go away on its own, surface agitation will get rid of it. Either a bubbler or water flow from the filter
