I don’t cut my tags that short, and before cutting the mono I’ll pull the mono tag end and mono main line away from each other just a little to make a V shape and snug the knot down more.
Important to wet the line, especially if you don’t want to really sinch the knot down with gloves. I’ll wrap the braid around my pliers or fish grips if I’m tying super heavy stuff and don’t have a glove.
