Been working on clean, natural photos of individual fish in my tank, and this hatchetfish gave me the perfect pose. Shot this with a Nikon D3500 + 40mm micro lens, ISO 100, f/8, 1/200s using a ceiling-bounced flash.
The tank’s still growing in, so I’m focusing on getting individual portraits while everything settles.
Open to feedback on the photo or the fish! Would love to connect with other fish photographers or keepers working on similar shots.

Yes it’s a hatchet fish
Looks good, getting a pic of an active fish is rough. I was happy when i finally got clear shots of my endlers and glowlight tetras (separate tanks).
The camera really likes getting the plants instead of fish 😅
