I actually caught him free handed first. Released him, but then I had a channel cat sitting in the water, and at the end of my line, the little guy was trying to eat my catch. I grab and release again, and start using catfish cutbait. My line starts moving strangely, I reeled it in, and guess who was trying to eat my cutbait. He has not learned a single thing.
He got free catfish cutbait for his efforts, before I gave him a gentle release. Nature is awesome.
