So I got this reel from my grandfather’s storage who has been gone 14 years and I’m on my way to the coast to use it but after taking off the cap on the left side to switch the reel handle to lefty I found a screw which was unusual to me. So I unscrewed it thinking it would be a normal easy flip of the handle but it seems like it is unswitchable. Is this the case and am I just stuck reeling righty for this trip? Also if anyone knows more about this reel I’d love to know about it because I can’t find ANYTHING about it online. Thanks!

Strange, it does seem like the locking mechanism for the handle is only on the right side. I honestly have never seen one where you can’t switch it. Have you tried switching it to see?

That little black piece should come out and you can put it on the other side. Usually it comes out with the handle or cap when you unscrew it but sometimes it just stays in there. Happened to me once and confused the hell out of me. I used a toothpick to get it out and swap it to the other side
