This is my 3rd IX I’ve owned over the past ten years. I just paid $13 for it. They do not feature instant anti reverse and I’m pretty sure the design is from 1985 but they keep on going. Yes, I own nicer reels, but have a soft spot for cheap things that work 🙂

I have one. I use it in my rotation for creek fishing. The anti-reverse isn’t instant only so the quickfire is easy to access. They are fun reels. I have some of the 80s ones also as well as some newer non quickfire rear drag shimanos. I like the convenience of the rear drag.
I used to sneak my mums IX combo out when no one was looking I loved it that much. She slowly stopped fishing and it became mine. Such fond memories. Since transitioned to the dark side (Daiwa) but I love these reels nonetheless. I vaguely recall hers having a switch on the underside for anti reverse though.
Edit: I think I can see the anti reverse switch there in your picture right at the bottom where the ball of your thumb is.
