So basically me and my dad are in love with shad-raps, but we throw different versions. He uses the classic one, but I prefer the jointed one. Now today we decided to see whose bait was better. We threw the classic color from 6am to 7pm (with a lunch break ofc). Now in this time I’ll tell you our data. I caught 7 striped bass, 4 largemouth bass, 13 spotted bass, 2 crappie, 3 hybrid bass, and a white perch. My dad caught 6 striped bass, 6 largemouth bass, 7 spotted bass, 9 hybrid bass, 5 white perch, and a random channel catfish. My dad’s fish were larger on average, while my fish were smaller but more numerous. I did however catch a 5 pound largemouth and a 15 inch crappie.

So bassfishermen of Reddit, which do you prefer? Looking at the data which would you throw? Are there any more details or examples you would like to add? Or is there a different style you prefer at all?

  1. What is the action of the jointed shad raps that you prefer? While I’m not a bass fisherman, I heard that crappie love shad raps (I normally pull Bandit 300s for crappie when I do use crankbaits), and I’m curious whether to get the classic or jointed shad raps (or just get both) to add to the collection.

Jointed for me work better with a slower retrieve in shallow water while normal cranks work well deeper and at a more speedy pace.

Usually the smaller jointed cranks tend to roll and spin rather than track straight for me unless I tune the lips and swivels.
