Whenever I watch her eat she puts it in her mouth and spits it right out, but then if I leave and come back, the food is completely gone. Is this normal?

  1. How long have you had her? What food are you using, and how long have you been using it? How are the water parameters? Water looks pretty cloudy… was it cycled correctly?

Those plastic plants are a no-go btw

  2. If it’s pellets , that’s completely normal. Bettas naturally do not eat that shape of food so it’s not natural / easy to digest.

I’d recommend trying flake betta food, along with buying some frozen brine shrimp/ blood worms.

  3. Mine will spit out the pellet (especially some larger pellets, like BugBites) if it’s not pre-moistened. He’ll do that a few times before he finally eats it. Sometimes he’ll wait for the pellet to fall and then chases it down. It’s so fun watching their little personalities.

If you didn’t soak and it’s dry – they need to wait till it’s softer and edible ?

The cloudiness of the water and foam on top of the water suggests your tank isn’t fully cycled yet. Test your water asap. Do a water change also.
