omg, as a new betta fish owner i’m worried my worst fear has come true… i looked into his tank after doing a clean and noticed his fins looked rough and the back one is totally short and ruffled?! Did i hurt him?! The first photo is from before and the next two are from today..💔

Yeah his fins are torn up…what decor do you have?
Possibly could be fin nipping himself? Long finned bettas do this sometimes due to the weight, boredom, etc
Could it potentially be fin rot? The specs of red/rust that appeared on his fins are a little sus.
do you have enrichment (like having him look in a mirror sometimes, giving him different food, playing with him, stuff like that)? sometimes they nip themselves out of boredom, I saw the photo of your tank so I don’t think it’s ripping on plants or anything
