He perks up towards the surface then just floats back down, ive rested him on his rock and he hasn't moved but his gills are moving slowly …? Ive seen a betta sleep before but we also just lost a betta 24 hrs ago so im nervous

I’m not a professional in any means, but mine did the same. When I was first learning about planted tanks, I did silk plants and colored rocks. Then I learned about plants and what works and he was so interested ! They get bored like us lol from what I’ve learned about 🙂
It might be normal but he is laying an odd way. Did you check parameters and temperature? That’ll really help you decide.
