Hey everyone, I am looking to get a secondary inshore fishing combo – and I'm thinking about getting a medium rated rod with a 2000-2500 size reel and using 10lb braid. Right now I have an all purpose PENN battle IV 5000 with an 8 foot MH rod spooled with 30lb braid but I want to be able to throw lighter lures and also reach applications my Penn MH cannot. I fish mostly Long Island sound in CT targeting bluefish, striped bass, tog, fluke, etc. I have been looking at getting a Daiwa BG 2000 (or a Shimano Sedona of similar size) but I am looking for any advice! My budget is around $130 for the reel. I have a 7'6 M rod already. Thanks!

  1. I went from a Penn Battle II to Daiwa BG. Feel like it’s an upgrade and at the same price point. Really solid reels. I leave mine out in the elements all year on my boat and I’m really lazy about maintaining them and they continue to work amazingly.

  2. I use pfluegers. Beat them to death and never have issues. Fought a salmon in the river with the whole thing caked in mud.

  3. I love my BG 8000, I use it for fishing big chunks of cut bait on the bottom with 30-40lb braid + 60lb mono leader. It does well against grouper and cobia

  4. I absolutely love my BG 3000. Have brought in everything from 4 inch perch to 28 inch striped bass on it. I also have a daiwa regal 2500 and it is so smooth. Really pleasant to use. Can’t go wrong with either from Daiwa.
