These huge boulders are placed in the river in half circles along the bank. Fish are always holding near here and I’d like to say to other anglers “ head to the x” when I pass them. It creates a mad made pool in the middle and flow is always perfect.

  1. I’m not sure there’s a specific name for what you’re looking for, but I would call the water in the middle of your photo a riffle. Man made rock walls designed to protect from erosion are often called “riprap” – the rocks in your photo aren’t exactly that, but that might be the closest term. “Fish the riffle along that small riprap wall” would convey the right message, assuming people can tell that wall is man made.

    ETA: if that run is your sweet spot, not knowing how to tell other people about it might be a good thing! “How and why, never where” is the advice I generally live by when it comes to sharing info with strangers.
