Hi everybody! I honestly was not sure if I wanted to put this in help or discussion. My boy Shimi has been doing pretty well. I’ve only had him a few months and he’s my first fish so we are learning together. Yesterday I planted some new plants I got in his aquarium. I want to get a better light but that would mean taking his lid off. Is this safe for him? Has anybody ever had experience of long finned boys jumping? Please let me know. And for my more experienced friends please tell me if anything is wrong with him physically. I am still trying to learn. And for those curious.. yes the tank is cycled! I know that’s usually everyone’s first question lol!

  1. Generally, we like to have a lid, because bettas are known to jump out. But, I personally don’t have a lid (people will probably come for me). My betta has never shown any signs of wanting to jump, but there’s always a chance of it happening.
I have a plant light over my tank, that’s why I don’t have the lid, but soon I may try to get or make a wire lid so the light can still go through, but no fish can get out
