My partner and I got a betta fish (named Mr. Dafoe) together in February and this is where I am with his tank. This is the first fish I've had as an adult, I know it definitely needs more plants – but I am STRUGGLING to keep them alive. What else should I add or change? Any tips for aquarium plant care appreciated!! I'm on my third light assuming that is the biggest issue.

Tank size is a 10g! And his only tank mate is a rabbit snail.

The only thing I would change is to take out the cube with holes. Bettas are curious fish and they will try to squeeze themselves into some pretty small places and get stuck. I’ve seen too many stories of them getting stuck in decor with openings and holes.

  2. Yeah light looks too weak and blocked, def upgrade, unfortunately good lights are quite expensive.
On the “cheap” side it’s at least £150 if you’d like to have lush plants.
And fertilizer! But only after light will be sorted.

Meanwhile you can add some pothos/monstera cuttings (no soil) with roots in the tank, to have a healthier environment for your betta.

That sponge filter is too small, I highly recommend getting a second one / a larger one.
