I put off getting a betta for a while because I thought getting a real tank would take up so much space and require so much work.
A five gallon tank fits on the same small table I bought for a one gallon bowl I was originally intending to use.
And the maintenance turns out to be pretty easy. A gravel vacuum makes a 25% weekly water changes so quick.
I was so intimidated by the idea that bettas should have live plants. I thought the plants would all instantly die if not for a shit ton of work. They’re fine and I’m doing nothing special. I love the way they look actually. I can’t wait to watch them grow!
I can see how much better off he is in this environment. I’m realizing he had ripped up fins when I got him, because they’re now growing longer and the gaps are filling in. He’s so active. He chases the little snails that hitchhiked on my plants around! He loves swimming from one side of his cave and sticking his little face out of the other side. I call it peek-a-boo. How stinking cute
Hoping maybe this post can be a “sign” for someone who has assumed the advice on this sub isn’t attainable. It actually is and it’s easy to see why it’s recommended—these little guys are so fun when they’re happy
