I’ve heard that betta’s need to exercise their (fins? Gills?) by flaring sometimes. Before I got my betta I thought this would be easy as I’ve seen + heard stories of betta’s being little bundles of sass.
However, my boy is the chillest dude ever.
He has never once flared at me, at anything. I was concerned so I got a lil mirror and tested it out
Nope.
He just.. looked at it. and swam around it. Is he scared of himself? Does he intimidate himself?
He does like nipping at parameter strips when I check his tank levels, but it’s less in an aggressive way and more of him thinking it’s food way.
Do I even need to flair train my betta? Is it necessary?

Nah you don’t need to flare him! Some are just more chill than others
I’ve heard the same thing, that it’s just good for them to stretch and use their muscles, however if he’s still pretty new to the tank, maybe he just hasn’t really “claimed” the tank yet.
Has he built a bubble nest yet? I’d guess that once he’s built the nest, he’d be more willing to flare up to protect it.
