I put him in a smaller tank with medicine to try and help with the healing process its been about a week and the wound is a bit smaller than before and i think the infection is gone. He can swim a bit better still not too great and definitely is depressed. He also isnt eating much just sleeping a lot. Would it be better to put him down?.. or could he make a recovery? Ive had him for about a year and a half. I also dont know how he got injured either.

Hes in a smaller tank to medicate him right now, his original tank is a 20 gal and is just him alone. both levels in both tanks are stable and good, i do 20% water change every day in the smaller tank right now as well as aquarium salt and some stress coat and bettafix because he did have an infection. hes only ate three peices of food in the past week and half. barely just got him to start eating. everythings occurred within two weeks. trying hard on my own to help him recover but i dont know if its possible or if its more humane to just put him down.. theres a filter and a small heater as well as a soft lily pad for him to rest on.
What caused him to have this? Me & my partner rescued this betta & he was happy with his tank mates, he’s in a 20 gallon tank long community tank & everyone gets along well, he even doesn’t care about the shrimp. But out of no where he got that & became a bit lethargic & bummed out.
