Hello! I got Speckles (half moon female betta) from petsmart over 6 months ago and she’s been doing great, good appetite and super interactive. She’s honestly amazing and I love her 🙂
About a week and a half ago I noticed she was pineconing (pics for reference…empty tank is her hospital salt bath tank). It looks like she has dropsy, I couldn’t find anything else that would explain the scales and she is also bloated.
Since then I’ve been doing daily Epson salt baths for 15 minutes in a hospital tank, and doing 40% water changes every day.
I saw there’s medicine but it’s not easily accessible where I am and a bit pricey, with mixed reviews. I heard that dropsy was almost always fatal, especially at her stage, so wondering if it’s worth trying it still.
HOWEVER! It’s been a week and a half with no changes. She hasn’t gotten better or worse. Speckles is still always hungry (she loves pellets) and is still pretty active and swims around her tank to greet you, though she’s resting at the top by her heater a little more than usual.
Thoughts?? What should I do at this point? I’m at a blank, I’ll keep doing the salt water baths but I’m wondering if anyone else has had it like this for so long? It sounds heartless but I honestly expected her to have passed at this point but she still seems to be fine (which would be great!)
I’m just not sure what to do. I love my little girl and want her to be healthy and happy. Advice (nicely) would be welcomed <3

Hmmmmm…. you said she likes to eat… how much has she been eating before and after the onset? Is she pooping in the hospital tank? If you don’t see poop, she might be constipated? You’re doing a good job with the hospital tank and salt baths
