I’ve been picking up surfcasting but usually get skunked or maybe a dogfish on some clams, but nothing of note. The other night was the same thing until I took the time to really look at the water and change my spot to what looked like a deep pool of water between the sandbar and the beach. It was low tide so I figured bait fish might be getting forced together in that spot, and after a few hours of just a couple more dogfish… why not.

Not even 5 minutes later I land my first keeper striped bass. 28.25” and 7.25lbs.

It absolutely made my night and confirmed to me that reading the water and picking what looks like a good spot really does make all of the difference!
