Hello! I am new to keeping fish, and my betta just started doing this. I got him a few days ago and he’s been in his new tank for 2 days. All water levels are good as well as temp and everything else. Can anyone give me some good insight as to why he’s doing this? I hope I’m not scaring him or anything!

He sees his reflection and wants to fight. He will settle down after awhile. Make sure not to keep the light on too much in a day as bettas prefer low light like their natural habitat. You can also add lots of plants to his tank too to help with flaring. If you decide to do live plants, make sure to quarantine them!! I just learned my lesson and gave my fish ich that I’m currently treating. If you decide fake plants, make sure they are silk so it doesn’t injure him. Congratulations to your new addition!! He is absolutely beautiful! 🤩
Bettas naturally flare when they see their reflection. Now mind you people are gonna wanna know if the tank is cycled? What are the exact parameter using the API master test kit because strips are faulty. How long have you had the tank running? And how big is the tank? The tank looks small and if you’re new you should read up on fish in cycling because if you don’t you can kill your fish VERY easily. You’ll need SeaChem prime to make sure ammonia, nitrites and nitrates don’t hurt him. Here is a good sample about BASIC betta keeping.
Looks like you have the tank light on but it’s dark in the room. That causes a reflection on the inside glass and he is seeing himself. This has happened to me a few times and when I turn on the lights in the room my little guy goes back to just chilling.
Hi just curious, where did you get your substrate?
That hammock is the wrong direction, needs to be flat so they can lay on it 🙂
