My first time planted aquarium/active soil.
I have lava rocks and some sort of active soil (the packaging called it black shrimp forever)
I have some plants and a filter that you can see
I only had a 40% water change in about a week

It’s biofilm. Generally harmless. But if you don’t like how it looks, some surface agitation will remove it. An air stone would work well. Some fish and shrimps may eat it as well.
This is biofilm. Its basically organic matter building up on the surface due to lack of surface agitation. Not harmful in itself, but can block oxygen exchange and suffocate the tank if left unchecked. Buy a small air pump and an air stone to prevent this.
