Idk what’s going on. My CPDs have all died, their bellies seemingly not sunken, but with a large white area in their side. It starts by them becoming lethargic and swimming near the top, gasping for air. It recently killed another fish. They die one by one. What could this be? I’ve never had an issue like this before and I want some advice before killing all my shrimp with coppersafe.

Might be worth trying a different source tbh. I’ve had a bunch of cpds fall to the same thing over time and it seems to be specific to them. By that I mean I have several other aquariums and it never seems to be contagious. Just slowly kills my cod population.

Not sure if it’s just hearsay or not.. but genetics seem to be sketchy with many cpds. If you are wanting a long term/breeding project I do think it’s worth sourcing a more expensive source than just PetSmart/LFS. Unless you have an aquarium club nearby you would probably have better luck finding them from another hobbyist who is breeding them in your area

Bacterial infection is most likely. Could be columnaris or any number of other nasties.

The most aggressive and DEFINITELY effective method to stop the outbreak now would be a UV sterilizer.

Lowering temp will also help. As low as your livestock will tolerate, but at LEAST down to 74F if it’s above that. The closer you get to the ~80-86F range, the deadlier infections are.

Long term you probably need to improve filtration.

  3. There’s something strange going on if your nitrites and ammonia aren’t at zero.

I saw someone recommend to you that you should lower your water temp. What have you been keeping it at?
