If you think this is bad, you should’ve seen how much worse this BBA was, it was fully covering the front and sides of my tank before I scrubbed and scrubbed (my poor arm😭). Then I took a net and scooped it all out. But the only thing working so far to kill it is flourish excel!
My question is how do I clean my canister filter to get rid of any spores? Do I need to completely get new sponges?
For context I’m moving this severum to my other 75 once it’s fully cycled. Once he’s out I’m taking this tank down and fully cleaning it out to restart. This BBA has almost ruined the hobby for me. I can’t even decorate this tank properly due this algae ruining everything in there.

In my experience. You will never remove all of it. I’ve done entire tank teardowns and sanitizing but it always comes back. Just keep the ammonia levels in check and it shouldn’t explode again.
A syringe with Hydrogen Peroxide is what I used for spot treatments on larger decorations.
Ramshorn snails actually eat black hair algae and saved my tank from an outbreak
When I had a decent breakout I introduced some siamese algae eaters and they completely removed all bba. I don’t have experience with severums so I’m not sure the compatability between the two, but if you’re looking for a simple solution the sae work great.
Wow! Was this from spot treating or did you treat the water?
