Headed to Maupin on Sunday and decided to "cheat" and throw on an egg pattern that has a orange tungsten head. I tied it off the hook of a heavier stonefly nymph. All that below an Oros indicator.
caught every trout (besides 1 on the stone nymph) and a few whitefish all on this egg pattern. Caught my very first steelhead (hatchery) on my 5wt rod using 4x tippet as well on this egg pattern!
NOTE: All barbless hooks and made sure to wet hands before handling
I was only able to fish a few hours Sunday and maybe 5 hours Monday.

I think it’s plain stupid if someone says that using an egg pattern is “cheating” (not you, the haters). I mean, they work… and they’re flies lol.
I also love when they’ve got the bright red stripe. 🤙
