Saw this at a local pawn shop for an appealing price, great shape and has the original tube but no slip for the sections. Would you pick this up or pass this up for $40?

  1. I don’t have a huge need for a 9′ 6wt but that’s probably a nice rod, nicer than an admittedly entry level Okuma

  2. Sure, why not. If the shop seems cool, bring your reel and see if they’ll let you cast it in the parking lot. Worst case scenario sell it back to them for like $15 or $20.

Albright rods are nothing special, but they are perfectly fine rods. $40 is pretty reasonable. Depends if your rod collection could use a 9’ 6wt. Personally I would probably buy it.

It’s nothing truly special but at that price, if you can use a 6wt, i’d go for it. By “slip” i assume you mean a rod sock. If the tube is partitioned inside for each rod section, it isn’t designed for a rod sock and you’re fine. If the tube is not partitioned you can buy a rod sock by itself, or make your own with your chosen cloth color. Here’s one example for $19.99, other colors should be available at other places. I would take a reel to the shop and test cast it outside to see if there’s anything glaringly off about the rod or it’s casting feel. A 6wt fly rod was once considered the de facto standard, as a 5wt is these days.
