i got a longfin betta about a month ago and he’s been living in a heavily planted 5 gal with 4 shrimp sine I got him. I’ve been wanting to add a clean up crew or a school of something (maybe pygmy corys but they might be to small, or dwarf rasboras?) does anyone have any species recommendations? He doesn’t bully the shrimp at all but I don’t know how he gets along with other fish, do I just get some and test it out?

IMO 5 gallons is too small for any other fish
Get a bigger tank and then we can talk about more tank mates.
If you have a 5 gallon then tank mates are sort of off the table, I had to learn that the hard way 😅 and plus your betta’s fins are so beautiful, it’d be a shame if something nipped at them
I have same breed and mine is spicy asf
Upgrade to larger tank. Significantly larger. Then consider maybe something other than ramshorn snails (only option other than shrimp in 5g).
Then you’ll have the 5g available for back up should betta not want tank mates, per the norm.
