i’ve been really nervous to share any photos of my fish because the fish community can be kind of mean sometimes which is totally understandable because we understand the most that fish can be extremely mistreated. But I’ve had my beta fish for about a year and I’m just trying to rule out ich and fin rot because I can’t tell if I’m paranoid or if somethings actually wrong. He’s currently in a 5 gallon tall which I know isn’t the best thing for him and I am planning on getting him a long tank. I’m just waiting for some deals at the pet store for the holiday season. He has been in this tank since I’ve gotten him over a year ago and he’s had no problems and he seems fine but I would just prefer a longer tank.

water parameters: ph 7.6-7.8 (I know this is a bit high for a beta fish, but this is the pH that’s been consistent since I got him and I don’t wanna lower it and stress them out if it’s working for him)

ammonia and nitrite are 0 and nitrate is between 5-15. temp is 76.8 which is a lil on the cooler side but like the ph irs been consistent and he’s never had issues.

he still eats normally, has a fasting day and is active all days long. just worried about the dots on his head and if his tail looks off to you guys! any help would be appreciated!!
excuse my nerite snail eggs everywhere 😪😪

  1. Have you investigated and ruled out hole in the head disease? To my knowledge it doesn’t always present like this in bettas, but, something to consider.

it sucks that you have to feel scared to post here. you’re doing your best, and i know your fish appreciates it.

The spots on his head look fine to me, but keep an eye on them. If they grow and/or spread, then you can be concerned.

His fins look ripped, not rotten. Is there any hard decor or small corners he could have gotten stuck in? It’s not your fault, they just crave the tiny dangerous space, even when you give them a whole tank to use lmao. It’ll likely heal on its own, but if you can, invest in some Melacure fin repair. It’s what I used with my boy and they grew back in just a few weeks.
