so i'm a first time soon-to-be betta fish owner and am in the process of cycling. id like to add more plants but am hoping that there are any reddish or purplish plants out there i can add? i wanted to have a more fantasy scape. also any tips on cycling will help, i'm trying to go the fish food route for ammonia.

The real question is why is the tank still in the cardboard?
But fr, red and purple plants usually don’t work well in low tech tanks. They usually require more care/specific needs and need a co2 system to really pop. They may grow, but will be green or a very dull color. I would start out with easier plants and as you get the hang things, look into more plants! Not to mention red plants need a toooon of light, usually leading to algae issues if not balanced properly
Maybe someone has a suggestion, but if you really want that red color to pop, you will need to upgrade the setup
Red and purple plants tend to need very intense lights! Those van be a bit tricky to work with because they also make perfect algae breeding grounds.
Your set up looks pretty good!! Heads up that if you get more plants there’ll be an “ugly” stage where everything sucks and it feels like nothing is working how you intended to and then after a while everything looks pretty good actually!
I’ve had it with all my tanks so far haha
“Easy” aquarium plants tend to be a bit of a mixed bag for me, all my mosses in tanks under 20gal have turned into algae clumps, but I’ve found all my Bettas LOVING Anubias. Which is great, because they come in a ton of sizes! There’s tiny ones, but I also bought a 25€ giant one that my Bettas have always used as comfy beds. Amazon Swords are also a good plant, we have had a ton of luck with just putting them into gravel and letting them grow out.
I really like the jungle vibes they give off, and the giant Anubias always scratched my fantasy itch. Maybe they could be something for you? 😀
(In my experience Anubias appreciate rootcaps/underground fertiliser, but that might be because we have very hard water. )
Wishing you the best of luck!!
