I have a nicely planted and established 10 gallon tank. Picture 2 is my tank. It’s a community now with cherry shrimp (adults and babies) nerite snails, 6 Pygmy corydora, and a mystery snails. It use to have a betta before I got all the shrimp and snails but she died suddenly and tragically, I posted here when it happened. It was just one of those things, I actually swore off bettas and decided to go the community route instead. From all I can see everything is thriving. I have baby shrimp and pregnant shrimp. The mystery snail is male so no eggs. I do a 20% water change every 2 weeks like clockwork just to keep everything nice and clear. I really didn’t think about another betta after the heartbreak of the last one.

Well today I went to the pet store, not even meaning to. To be honest I was just going to go to the shop Nextdoor and get my eyebrows done…… but they were closed for lunch. Well I already parked and was like well I just pop in the pet store. Right Nextdoor. I go there sometimes for dog food and other stuff. They don’t always have betta, or really more than one or two at deaths door. It’s an understaffed pet supplies plus. I just looked around and wandered over there and they had like 20 bettas today, adults and babies. Most looked somewhat healthy and active, there were a few that looked very sick. But this one was just eye level and moving around so beautifully. She caught my eye. It just felt like she was staring into my soul. Idk I know it’s just a fish, it’s silly. I really thought I was smarter than this. I took this picture and left. I didn’t get her.

Anyways, I would be a COMPLETE IDIOT to try and add her to my community right? I think she’s a baby, or is atleast labeled baby. Is there any chance I could add her and her not annihilate everyone else in the tank? Like maybe if she’s a baby she could grow up with everyone and just get use to them? Idk. It sounds stupids. I know some people do community tanks with them just fine. I could always go back for her. I’m thinking about it and would love any advice.

She should be fine I have multiple female bettas who have done great in communities. ESP in a 10g she’ll be happy

i have my dude with shrimp and he’s never eaten them. it really depends on the individual betta really, it doesn’t hurt to try it out! i’d say with all those roots, she wouldn’t be fast enough to catch much, you look like you have a lot of hiding spaces in there for baby shrimp

  3. I have a nice female who lives with kuhli loaches and ember tetras. She is so nice to them and will not chase them. In a beautiful tank like yours, it should be no issue

  4. She might eat your shrimps, but you could maybe try to convince her they arent food by making sure shes well fed before fully putting her in.

  5. Your shrimp might be on the menu, but otherwise, I don’t see any issues. Beautiful tank!

  6. You have a beautiful tank!
I think she would do well in there and be absolutely the happiest little betta ever. Lots of hiding places for the everyone and maybe growing up with them she won’t go after them when she’s older. Maybe some shrimp or snail casualties depending on the personality.

It really depends on the female, but I find that baby bettas and those still used to cup life have a much more malleable little brain. I just got a very young girl and she’s in a 5.5 g right now with a ton of shrimp. She poked at them a few times but leaves them alone now. I have another female doing great with shrimp and cories.

Give it a shot! There’s a good chance it will work out. My only word of warning is to keep an eye on the pygmy cories with her, all of my 4 bettas I tried with my salt and pepper cories had a desire to eat/irritate them and cories aren’t skittish like shrimp so they just ended up picked on. The larger the tank and the more hiding places the better chances you have as well, though.
