So, this is McLeary, I've had him for a few days now, and this is the first time he flared since I've had him. He's been pretty active, hiding and swimming in the plants and everything, I've noticed he likes to sleep under the filter and all, so I assume things are okay? The tank has been cycling for about a month before I got him and the temperature is currently around 25C/77F, although usually its 28C/82F. Anyway, when he flared today I npticed this little spot on his fins, and I cant tell if thats his beard or if something is wrong with him. I've never had a fish before at all, so I don't know, I've really been trying to keep everything good. This is the best angle I could get, he gets a little erratic when I'm near the glass and follows my finger and ohone everywhere

  1. Hey op! If you could answer the mod question, it’ll be able to better assist those who may have answers! If you’re needing a test kit to test the levels, the API freshwater master kit is what most of us use. Please note the test strips are not as accurate as liquid tests and brackish water (tannins) will alter the tests slightly. Here’s a good guide for water changes in accordance with testing levels!

    * 5.5 Gallon tank
    * have a filter, not a heater cause my house has been warm and wasnt able to get one at the time but am planning to get one ASAP
    * 25 Celsius/77 Fahrenheit
    * I havent been able to test the water because theres no ammonia test kits available in my country so Im ordering them
    * Ive had the tank for about 2 months, its been cycling around a month and something, the fish has been around for about 4 days
    * I’m supposed to do a water change today, I plan to take out 30% water and put more of the dechlorinated water in
    * He has no tankmates at all, although a renite snail might join
    * Feed him 2-4 betta granules twice a day
    * he has 2 hiding spots, one silk plant and 2 fake plants
