A friend found this rod and reel setup this morning while walking the beach. We have no clue what this little trigger set up is for. It’s a 4500 on a 10 foot rod.

Does the job of your finger ahne you’re gonna cast.
But you now have a trigger.
Look the line around the little nub while trigger is depressed , and release when you’re gonna cast.
I see surf guys use these alot tosnave their fingers from being wet and soggy all day as well as casting very large lures/plugs.
Cool find dude.

Release trigger, or casting cannon. It holds the line if you are slinging 8+bait out past the waves, protects your finger and sometimes gives you more distance and reduces line breaks

called a bionic finger or casting cannon. When you’re casting heavy lures or weights or using thin braid, you hook your line under the little metal trigger, load up your cast, and then push the plastic lever with your finger to release the line. It protects your finger and lets you throw harder casts without cutting yourself.

Where did you find it? The owner is going to be really happy when you get it back to them.
