Hi everyone I’m doing my first water change25% now that it’s been a week with my betta and I’m using a 5gal bucket to have water conditioned and be ready to use when I’m doing changes. I’m using imagitaruim water conditioner and used a very small .5 of tap water conditioner in the water as well. How long should i wait till it’s ok and put that new water in the tank? Also which one is preferred i also have a prime seachem bottle but the lady who helped me out today said she’s only familiar with imagitaruim.

Honestly, really good question, you got me for five or 10 minutes max. I usually mix the conditioner around in the water bucket, or put it in before I fill. I don’t know if it’s supposed to be more or less time. I use Prime. Great brand and product. It seems it gets all the work done in like 2 drops per gal. Which is amazing. My city had really hard water so it’s really good for me. I would recommend it’s good for all waters.
i put my conditioned water in the tank immediately after adding the conditioner
with prime i’ve put it in right away for a top off and no visible change or harm in my 10 gal
I use a python water changer, so when i start my refill, i will then add the tanks volumes worth of conditioner to it.
I did it immediately. Like I’d add the conditioner, shake it up, and sniff it. If it still smells like chlorine/a swimming pool, I had another mL pipette of conditioner in. I use seachum Prime, you don’t have to worry about adding too much with Prime. The whole waiting thing you may have heard is with chlorine. After 24 hours it evaporates from the water without conditioner. But tap water has more than just chlorine in it. The water conditioner neutralizes the other harmful contents pretty quickly, along with the chlorine.
Immediately
I use Prime, which I would strongly recommend switching to (it’s 3 drops a gallon) and I use a python knock off, so I add the conditioner and then add my water, it should dechlorinate instantly.
Can’t speak to those two products though, and neither brand has a good reputation for their products
I have a 75 , 20 long, 5 gallon, 10 gallon and 3.5 gallon in my living room, they all just get topped off due to being heavily planted.
I have a 5 gallon water jug I use for top offs, I add the conditioner in when it is half full than let stand after full for 5 min atleast than start adding it.
Idk why I do it this way I just want to be extra sure my fish are not bothered by chlorine or anything else that is neutralized by the conditioner.
Get prime.
I use a python so I just add dechlorinator directly into my tanks and pump water straight from the tap into the tank.
I’m in AZ as well… when she talks about waiting, she means waiting for the pH to balance. When I do 20% water changes, I pull 3 gallons out of a 20 gallon tank. Then refill the bucket to 3 gallons, put my conditioner and aquarium salt in and then put an aerator in it for about 30 minutes. This helps to balance the pH, especially because I have snails and shrimp in the tank.
After the 30 minutes, I add the water back to the aquarium
