Hi everyone, this is my new betta fish I got him yesterday (the third picture was taken yesterday).

Today I noticed that something seems to have happened to his tail, and my first thought was fin rot. Right now I’m not sure whether it’s just a tear or an infection. If it is an infection, can the discoloration develop this quickly?

If I want to treat him for fin rot but it turns out he’s not actually infected, could that harm him?
What would you do in my place?
I think his tail is a bit injured and discolored, so I’d like to treat it, but I’m worried that if nothing is really wrong, I might end up hurting him by treating him unnecessarily or stressing him out.

he eats small amounts but he made a small bobble nest so idk if he stressed or not. I will remove any plastic that can tear his tail. besides this idk what could harm him, I'm so loooost is bin 1 day yall and im already worrying sick 😫

I wouldn’t treat him at this moment, just keep an eye on it and the water parameters make sure no ammonia or nitrites and if anything is wrong it should clear up in the next week or so. If you have frozen brine shrimp I would feed him that. But as long as he is still swimming fine and eating he should be fine.

Definitely keep an eye on water parameters and I would add catappa leaves in his tank and like the other commenter said, brine shrimp. Catappa is not harmful as it is naturally occurring in betta habitat and aids in their health =)
