Hey all. I'm considering pulling the trigger soon on a T and T Contact 2. Big investment for me! I've been doing the Euro thing for a couple years on a 10' Clearwater 3 weight. I'm leaning toward the 10'9" 3 weight in the Contact 2, attracted by the longer reach. I'm based in the mid-Atlantic and don't fish huge water most of the time. Typically mid-size tailwaters as well as spring creeks. Do those of you with a rod in the 10'9" range ever feel it's just too long? I've really gravitated to longer rods over the years but wondering if this will turn out to be too much.

I have a 10′ 2wt clearwater and I’m based near the GSMNP, I wish I had gone with the 10’6″, 10’9″ would likely be too big for my area.

  2. I’ve fished a 20’ keiryu rod in brushy areas just fine.

But with fixed line rods at least, I’ve noticed little gain in distance unless the rod length jumps by a large amount. 10’6” doesn’t feel very different from 11’.

I use 10’6” and i think it is the perfect length for mid size waters. As long as you get a reel that balances well with the rod you will be in good shape
