Betta Fish: potential tank mate experiment

I’ve been starting to plan a 20-30g community tank and am trying to include my existing betta (don’t worry, I’m going to keep his current tank maintained in case it doesn’t work out).

I wouldn’t call it scientific, but I’ve been experimenting with taping high-quality pictures of different possible tank mates to his tank to see what happens.

So far:
– a picture of some Celestial Pearl Danios made him immediately swim over and start flaring like crazy until I took it down 2 minutes later
– a picture of some kuhli loaches didn’t make him flare at all, he just sulked near the picture with his fins slightly clamped until I took it down after about 10 minutes
– he hasn’t shown any interest, aggression, or pouting towards a picture of a couple pygmy corys (even though of course he clocked it right away)
